Punjab: Fazilka Sugar mill workers demand dues

Resentment is brewing among employees of the Fazilka Central Cooperative Sugar Mills as they have not been paid salary for the past 11 months, reportedly due to financial crunch.

The employees, who have attained superannuation, and dependents of the deceased workers have also not been paid their dues since January, 2020.

The mill owes nearly Rs 11 crore towards salaries and dues. Sugar mill labourers’ union leaders have demanded release of salaries immediately, as Diwali was approaching. Kanwaljit Singh, general manager of the mill, refused to comment on the issue. — OC
