Amid rising concerns over global energy security and food supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Gulf oil crisis, leading experts, policymakers, and sugar industry stakeholders from across the world will gather in Lucknow to discuss the future of the sugar sector and its growing role in sustainable energy production.
The Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA) and Greentech Consultants are jointly organising a two-day international conference titled “Future Ready Sugar Industry: Pathway for Sustainable Growth” on May 21-22 in Lucknow.
The conference comes at a crucial time when the global sugar industry is facing challenges related to climate change, ethanol demand, sustainability, and technological transformation. Discussions will focus on sugarcane development, ethanol blending, policy reforms, and innovations aimed at strengthening the sector’s long-term growth prospects.
Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest producer of sugarcane, sugar, and ethanol, will be at the centre of the deliberations. Experts will review the current status of the state’s sugar industry and explore strategies to improve productivity, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Prof. Narendra Mohan, former Director of the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, said the conference would provide an important platform for addressing both opportunities and emerging challenges facing the sugar sector.
“In view of the opportunities and challenges before the sugar industry, an in-depth review of strategies for sugarcane development and sustainable industrial growth has become essential,” he said.
The event will see participation from international experts and delegates representing major sugar-producing countries including Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Egypt, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, South Africa, and the Philippines.
Industry leaders and experts from India’s key sugar-producing states are also expected to attend technical sessions covering policy frameworks, market trends, advanced processing technologies, and value-added opportunities from sugar industry by-products and waste.
Senior officials from the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government will share insights on future policy direction, ethanol expansion, and the role of the sugar sector in supporting India’s clean energy goals.
A major attraction of the event will be the Expo Zone, where companies and organisations will showcase innovative technologies, bio-energy solutions, sustainable bioplastics, and modern equipment related to the sugar and allied industries.
The conference is expected to play a significant role in shaping the future roadmap of India’s sugar and ethanol sectors at a time when global energy dynamics are rapidly changing.
