Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research has appointed Dr. S. N. Sushil as its new Director. He officially assumed charge on Thursday at the institute’s headquarters in Lucknow.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sushil was serving as Director at National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Dr. Sushil completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Entomology from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. He is widely recognized for his expertise in biological control, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), biosystematics, beekeeping, plant quarantine, and plant protection policies.
With more than three decades of scientific and administrative experience, Dr. Sushil has served at several prestigious institutions across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ranchi, Almora, and Lucknow. Between 2013 and 2016, he also worked as Plant Protection Adviser to the Government of India.
Over the years, he has received several national and international recognitions for his contribution to agricultural entomology and plant protection. His major honours include the Golden Jubilee Special Award 2023, Global Biopesticide Excellence Award 2023, Outstanding Agricultural Scientist Award 2020, and Gold Medal 2008.
Dr. Sushil has published over 437 scientific and popular articles and developed more than 20 technologies, including six commercially adopted innovations. He also holds two approved patents. In addition, he has represented India on multiple national and international technical platforms as an expert, member, and delegation leader.
The institute fraternity welcomed Dr. S. N. Sushil and expressed confidence that under his leadership, the institute will achieve new milestones in sugarcane research and farmer-centric innovations.
