Gorakhpur: Pipraich sugar mill, known for producing sulphur-free sugar, is set to expand its operations with ethanol production.
The UP govt has allocation ted Rs 90 crore in the 2025-26 Budget to establish a distillery at the mill, with a production capacity of 60 kilolitres per day. This move will ensure faster payments to sugarcane farmers
Established as a private sugar mill in 1932, Pipraich was acquired in 1974 but shut down in 1999.
Officials said that when chief minister Yogi Adityanath was MP he consistently advocated for the revival of closed sugar mills, but past govt. paid little attention. After becoming CM in 2017, he fulfilled his promise by inaugurating a new sugar mill at the same site, bringing relief to farmers. On Nov 17, 2019, the mill commenced operations in record time, officials said.
