Uttar Pradesh’s agricultural economy has seen impressive growth over the past eight years, expanding more than three times to reach nearly ₹7 trillion in 2024–25, according to Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi. Back in 2016–17, the state’s farm sector was valued at ₹2 trillion.
The surge is largely driven by increased food grain production, which now makes up over 40% of the state’s agricultural output. Horticulture and sugarcane follow, contributing around 22.5% and 19.5% respectively. The rest comes from allied activities such as animal husbandry and fish farming.
The minister highlighted that the current food grain production in the state has reached 73.7 million tonnes, reflecting strong growth in the sector.
