Sugar industry seeks government help as prices fall

The sugar industry is under growing financial pressure as sugar prices continue to fall. In response, the National Cooperative Sugar Federation has urged the government to step in and provide immediate support.

The Federation has requested that the minimum selling price of sugar be fixed at ₹41 per kilogram to help sugar mills cover their costs. It has also asked for an increase in the ethanol procurement price, saying this would provide much-needed financial relief to the industry.

A formal request has been submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, and Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Federation President Harshvardhan Patil said that a delegation from the organization will soon meet Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation and push for quick action to support sugar mills.
