India’s Sugar Production Likely to Rise 13% in 2025–26: AISTA

India’s sugar output is expected to see a strong increase in the 2025–26 season, with production estimated at 29.6 million tonnes, according to industry body AISTA.

This represents a 13% rise compared to the previous season and reflects growing optimism within the sugar industry. The estimate applies to production excluding sugar diverted for ethanol blending.

Exports to Stay Below Allowed Limit

Despite higher output, sugar exports are likely to remain lower than the permitted quota. AISTA said exports may be limited to around 8 lakh tonnes, well below the maximum allowed level.

Industry Outlook Remains Positive

The higher production forecast comes even as ethanol diversion is expected to be lower, indicating improved sugar recovery and better overall performance by mills.

With rising output and controlled exports, the industry is preparing for a strong and stable sugar season through September 2026.
