Karnal and Panipat cooperative sugar mills in Haryana have won national awards for their strong performance in technical efficiency and sugarcane development. The awards were presented by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at an event organised by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd. (NFCSF) at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Haryana Cooperation Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma were also present at the event.
The Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill received two national awards for its performance. The mill secured the first prize in Technical Efficiency for 2024-25 and the first prize in Cane Development for 2025-26. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Karnal mill has received a national award for its performance. Karnal Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman Anand Kumar Sharma and Managing Director Aditi received the awards on behalf of the mill. 
The Karnal cooperative sugar mill recorded a capacity utilisation rate of 98.55 per cent during the 2024-25 crushing season. It crushed 48.10 lakh quintals of sugarcane and produced 4.55 lakh quintals of refined sugar. The mill also generated additional revenue by selling electricity worth ₹22.67 crore after operating its power turbine at full rated efficiency. The mill, established in 1976 over 116 acres with an initial crushing capacity of 1,250 TCD, has now expanded its capacity to 3,500 TCD.
The Karnal mill has also received ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management for 2025-26. According to the mill's management, it is the first sugar mill in Haryana to receive this recognition in the last 15 years. The management attributed the mill's continued performance to improvements in operations, quality management and coordination among employees, officials and sugarcane farmers.
The Panipat Cooperative Sugar Mill, Dahar, also received the first prize at the national level for Technical Efficiency. The mill achieved a capacity utilisation rate of 94.61 per cent during the 2025-26 season. During the 2024-25 crushing season, the Panipat mill crushed 61.50 lakh quintals of sugarcane, the highest among Haryana's 11 government-owned sugar mills. It produced 5.62 lakh quintals of sugar and generated nearly ₹29 crore from power sales. 
The NFCSF evaluates cooperative sugar mills on multiple performance parameters, with mills assessed in different categories based on sugar recovery. The national recognition for Karnal and Panipat highlights the role of higher capacity utilisation, efficient sugar production, power generation and improved cane development practices in strengthening the performance of cooperative sugar mills.
