A massive 200-tonne industrial vessel imported from Belgium is being transported to Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh for use at a sugar mill and ethanol plant. The nearly 100-foot-long machinery is being carried on a specially designed heavy-haul truck with 308 wheels, creating a major logistical challenge along its route through Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi.
The vessel was transported by sea from Belgium to Paradip Port in Odisha before beginning its journey by road. From Odisha, the heavy consignment travelled through Jharkhand and Bihar, passing through Rohtas, Gaya, Aurangabad and Kaimur. It is now set to enter Uttar Pradesh through Chandauli before proceeding towards Varanasi and eventually reaching the Balrampur sugar mill.
Two pilot vehicles are travelling ahead of the 308-wheel truck, while a team of technical experts is accompanying the consignment. Officials are continuously monitoring the route and widening roads at narrow stretches wherever required. Arrangements are also being considered at toll plazas to facilitate the movement of the oversized vehicle. 
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), police and other government departments have jointly inspected the route to assess roads, bridges, foot overbridges and other infrastructure. The teams are coordinating the movement to ensure that the heavy machinery can pass safely without causing major disruptions.
The biggest challenge is expected in Varanasi, where the extraordinary size of the consignment has created difficulties at several points. During a joint inspection, officials identified two foot overbridges on NH-19 and another structure near the Swarved Temple in Chaubepur as potential obstacles to the vehicle. Parts of these structures are expected to be removed temporarily to facilitate the movement of the heavy machinery and rebuilt after the consignment has passed.
After entering Uttar Pradesh from Chandauli, the truck will enter Varanasi and travel along NH-19. The planned route will take the vehicle from Dafi towards Mohansarai before moving onto the reverse lane and proceeding through Rakhuna towards Ganjari Cricket Stadium. From the stadium, the consignment will return to its designated lane and continue on the Ring Road towards Harhua.
The vehicle will then proceed through the Harhua intersection and enter a service lane near Sandha before continuing towards the Ghazipur four-lane road. The route has been carefully planned to accommodate the heavy vehicle’s exceptional length, weight and width while reducing potential traffic and infrastructure-related complications.
The consignment is expected to halt at Chandauli for about a day before entering Varanasi. Another halt of around a day is planned near Harhua to allow officials, technical teams and other agencies to coordinate the next stage of the journey. The 200-tonne vessel will remain under close supervision until it reaches its final destination at the Balrampur sugar mill and ethanol plant.
