Hike MSP for sugarcane to Rs 4,000 per tonne: OPS
AIADMK coordinator O PAnneerselvam on Wednesday demanded the state government to hike the minimum support price for sugarcane to Rs 4,000 per tonne as promised in the DMK poll manifesto.

In a press statement, he said the state government’s announcement, setting the support price at Rs 2,900 per tonne, had disappointed the farmers. OPS recalled that when the previous AIADMK regime fixed the minimum support price at Rs 2,850 per tonne in 2016, Stalin had demanded to increase the same to Rs 3,500.

“The DMK had threatened to stage protests if the price was not hiked and announced in the poll manifesto that farmers would be given Rs 4,000 per tonne if the party was voted to power. However, Stalin has deceived the farmers with his announcement of Rs 2,900 per tonne,” OPS said while urging the government to hike the minimum support price.
