Brazilian ethanol producer Raizen worried about ongoing drought’s potential impact on 2025-26 crop

Rio De Janeiro: Raizen, a leading ethanol producer in Brazil, has raised concern about the effects of an ongoing drought on the sugarcane crop next year rather than on the cane crop of the ongoing season. Ricardo Mussa, CEO of the company shared this concern on Monday, citing the risks of extended dry conditions, reported Reuters.

Brazil has been experiencing long periods of dry weather in many areas, affecting crops like sugarcane and delaying the planting of a new soybean cycle. In recent months, wildfires across the country have also raised alarm among farmers.

Speaking at an event in Rio de Janeiro, Mussa said his main worry is for the 2025/26 sugarcane harvest, as he fears the drought could continue for a long time.

“We are paying close attention to the weather in November, December, and January,” he said.

Mussa added that while the current sugarcane crop hasn’t been seriously affected by the fires, a continued drought over the next few months could worsen the situation and increase the damage.
