Ethanol Milestone: India Achieves 15.8% Ethanol Blending with Petrol in 100 Days

India’s ethanol production has surged, reaching 1,648 crore litres, surpassing the 100-day goal of 1,600 crore litres set by the government. This achievement is part of the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, designed to reduce fuel imports by blending ethanol with petrol.

Under the leadership of Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the government aims for 20% ethanol blending by 2025. By May 2024, India had already achieved a 15% blending rate. As of August 2024, the rate reached 15.8%, with a cumulative blending rate of 13.6% from November 2023 to August 2024, indicating steady progress.

Key states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh have exceeded ethanol production needs, supporting energy self-sufficiency and boosting local farming communities by providing ethanol production opportunities.

India’s EBP programme not only promotes sustainable energy but also empowers farmers while reducing the nation’s dependency on fuel imports.
