U.P. Takes Lead In Sugar Production! Output Higher Than Maharashtra This Season

Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, the government of Uttar Pradesh has attained another noteworthy accomplishment. According to a report, Uttar Pradesh has surpassed Maharashtra in sugar production for the ongoing season. The sugarcane crushing season spans from October to June.

Impressively, Uttar Pradesh has achieved this feat despite operating 118 sugar mills during the period, while Maharashtra operated 210 mills. Thus far, Uttar Pradesh has recorded a sugarcane production of 2,348 lakh tonnes, surpassing Maharashtra’s production of 1,413 lakh tonnes.

This achievement showcases the significant progress made by Uttar Pradesh in the sugar industry and highlights the state’s ability to maximize production even with fewer mills in
operation. The government’s focus on promoting sugarcane cultivation and ensuring efficient processing has evidently contributed to this success.

UP’s Cane Development and Sugar Mills’ minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary told PTI, “UP is ahead of Maharashtra as far as production of sugar is concerned along with a number of other factors.”

“The total sugar produced by Uttar Pradesh in sugar season 2022-2023 is 107.29 lakh tonnes (which includes 3.05 lakh tonnes of Khandsari (physically extracted sugar from liquid jaggery), as compared to 105.30 lakh tonnes by Maharashtra.

He further said that 19.84 lakh tonnes of sugar was diverted for ethanol production in Uttar Pradesh, while Maharashtra diverted 15.70 lakh tonnes for the same purpose.

During the 2022-23 season, the minister said that a total payment of Rs 28,494.32 crore has been disbursed to the farmers. Additionally, it was highlighted that approximately
80 sugar mills have successfully made 100 percent payment to the farmers within a week of the season’s closure.
