Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that Reliance Industries has expressed interest in establishing a bamboo-based ethanol production plant in the state. This development comes after a recent meeting between Dr. Saha and Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai.
Shedding light on what transpired in the meeting, the Chief Minister said, “I had a detailed discussion with Mukesh Ambani ji regarding investment opportunities in Tripura. I highlighted the state’s rich resources, such as Agarwood, Rubber, and Bamboo, particularly the Muli bamboo variety, which is abundant in our region and suitable for ethanol production. He acknowledged the potential and showed interest in setting up an ethanol plant in the state.”
Dr. Saha shared this update during the inauguration of a new auditorium at the Tripura Institute of Technology. He also emphasized the state government’s commitment to enhancing youth employability. “Tripura has 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), but many graduates from these institutes have struggled to secure relevant jobs due to outdated technology. To address this, we have signed an MoU with Tata Technologies, which will invest Rs 700 crore to modernize the institutes. This initiative is expected to generate 5,000 job opportunities annually for ITI graduates,” he said.
The Chief Minister also spoke about efforts to combat drug addiction in the state. “The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has approved Rs 200 crore for establishing a drug de-addiction center in Bishramganj. Additionally, similar centers will be developed in all eight districts of Tripura,” he added.
The government’s proactive approach aims to harness the state’s natural resources, improve skill development, and address pressing social issues like drug abuse, paving the way for Tripura’s holistic development.
