Dhampur Sugar Mills Q1 reported lower profits at Rs43.59cr on lower EBIT from sugar due to seasonal factors

Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd reported -19.88% fall in total sales revenues for the Jun-21 quarter on consolidated basis at Rs880.28cr. On a sequential basis, revenues were down -17.59% compared to Rs1,068.11cr revenues in Mar-21 quarter, showing some impact of COVID 2.0 and also the typical sugar seasonal cycles.

In terms of verticals, the sugar segment and the power segment saw a sharp fall in revenues on yoy basis. However, the ethanol and chemicals business of Dhampur showed growth of nearly 60% revenues on yoy basis.

Net profit for Jun-21 quarter was down -20.47% at Rs43.59cr. The fall in net profits was due to sharp fall in the EBIT from sugar business due to seasonal factors. EBIT of the power business was also lower by 20% on a yoy basis.

However, the ethanol business saw sharp growth of 62% to become biggest contributor to EBIT in the quarter. Net margins for Jun-21 quarter stood at 4.95% against 4.99% in Jun-20 quarter and 8.56% in Mar-21 quarter. Dhampur will demerge Asmoli, Mansurpur and Meerganj units into Dhampur Bio organics.
