Arun Singh, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, inaugurated the Brajdev Ethanol Plant in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. The plant is expected to benefit local farmers who grow rice and maize in the region.
The ethanol plant will also create employment for around 1,000 people. Ethanol produced here will be supplied to cities such as Mughal Sarai and Prayagraj, along with other parts of the country.
The plant was inaugurated on Tuesday night at Semariha village in Haliya block, a highly underdeveloped area of Mirzapur district. During the event, Arun Singh, who is also the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, spoke to journalists and said the company will provide jobs to hundreds of people.
He said that he once dreamed of seeing such an industry set up in Mirzapur and that dream has now come true. According to him, when a factory is established, it also leads to the development of roads and infrastructure. He added that the government, under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, is committed to improving infrastructure and promoting development.
Arun Singh explained that ethanol is blended with petrol and diesel, which helps promote green energy and benefits the environment. Currently, petrol contains about 20% ethanol blending, and this percentage is expected to increase in the future. He said India has already become one of the leading countries in ethanol production.
The Brajdev Ethanol Private Limited plant is located about 50 kilometers from the Mirzapur district headquarters. Its opening will provide jobs locally so people will not have to migrate for work. It will also increase the income of farmers growing rice and maize.
Managing Director Devesh Giri said the plant consumes 500 tons of rice and maize per day, which will benefit farmers. Currently, rice is being supplied by the Food Corporation of India.
The plant has a production capacity of 200,000 liters of ethanol per day. The ethanol will be supplied to oil companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Petroleum.
Around 150 technical staff and 200 non-technical workers are employed at the plant, while about 500 people are indirectly employed. Additionally, 70–80 vehicles move in and out of the plant daily for transportation and operations.
