Praj Industries Successfully Shows Way to Make Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Ethanol Using Axens Jetanol™ Technology

New Delhi, January 30, 2026:
Praj Industries has achieved a major milestone in green aviation fuel by successfully demonstrating an Ethanol-to-Jet (EtJ) process at its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) demonstration plant using Axens Jetanol™ technology.

The breakthrough was announced at the Wings India 2026 event, where officials from India’s aviation regulator and key industry representatives highlighted the importance of cleaner fuel solutions for the aviation sector.

Praj’s facility at its R&D centre in Pune has now proven that bio-ethanol can be converted into drop-in sustainable jet fuel that meets international standards and can be used in existing aircraft engines and fuel systems. Previously the plant had shown success with isobutanol feedstock, and this latest step adds ethanol to its list of viable raw materials.

The technology comes from Axens, which has licensed its Jetanol™ Alcohol-to-Jet process to Praj, including key steps like dehydration, oligomerization, and hydrogenation, along with catalysts and engineering support.

This achievement positions Praj as the first company in the world to offer a fully integrated solution for converting both ethanol and isobutanol into SAF, supporting global efforts to cut aviation emissions.

Praj has also been involved in SAF deployment in India before — including supporting a commercial SAF-blended flight operated by AirAsia India — and says it is ready to work with partners like ethanol producers and oil companies to scale up production.
