51st convocation of NSI to be held on Jan 12

Kanpur: The 51st Convocation of National Sugar Institute (NSI) will be held on January 12. During the convocation ceremony, titles will be distributed to the students of 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 batches.

While Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, minister of state, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development, Government of India will be the chief guest, Aswani Srivastava, joint secretary (sugar) shall also grace the function as distinguished guest.

During the convocation, titles shall be distributed to about 745 students who have passed out during these academic years. Mahatma Gandhi gold medal awarded by Government of India shall be given to the topper of Sugar Technology course.

“For the first time, for the year 2022-23, Mahatma Gandhi gold medal shall be given to an overseas student – Samson Akore Adeoye of Nigeria,” said Narendra Mohan, director, NSI, Kanpur.

In addition to this, other prestigious awards such as Shrijee Future Leader Award, ISGEC Excellence Award, CV Subbarao Excellence Award and Praj Excellence Award shall also be given to the meritorious students of several other courses. Professor Mohan said, “Besides these, cash awards by Indian Sugar Mills Association, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories and Global Cane Sugar Services private limited shall also be given by the chief guest.”

During the convocation, 17 medals and 40 cash awards shall be conferred to the meritorious students. Incidentally, convocation is being organized on a date which happens to be birthday of Swami Vivekanand and is celebrated as ‘National Youth Day’. “We will start the convocation proceedings after paying floral tributes to him,” said Virendra Kumar, controller of examinations.
