PILIBHIT: The Uttar Pradesh government approved a renovation plan for two cooperative sugar mills — Kisan Cooperative at Puranpur (Pilibhit district) and Semikhera (Baheri tehsil circle) of Bareilly district–with an estimated budget of Rs 35 crore.According to officials, both sugar mills were very old and caused problems for farmers during crushing season.
MD of UP Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation, Ramakant Pandey, said “The funds have been approved and renovation will start very soon. It’ll include upgradation of boiling and production units to ensure uninterrupted operation of the plants. Of the total amount,
Rs 18 crore has been earmarked for Puranpur mill and the remaining Rs 17 crore for Semikhera.”
Terming the sanctioned amount as a “drop in the bucket”, general manager of Puranpur sugar mill, Ramakant Verma, said, “This will only cover one or two parts of the plant.Besides, I have not received any written information about the approval.”
