Himachal Pradesh Aims to Lead in Green Hydrogen Production with New Government Policy
“Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu spearheads efforts to establish Himachal Pradesh as a prominent hub for green hydrogen production through the implementation of a new policy. Leveraging the state’s abundant renewable energy resources, such as sunlight, water, and wind, Himachal Pradesh aims to attract investments in large-scale renewable energy projects, ensuring a consistent and sustainable supply of green electricity for electrolysis.”
“Collaborating with Oil India Limited (OIL) on a pilot basis, the state government is already taking steps towards green hydrogen and green ammonia production. The government is actively encouraging young entrepreneurs to invest in the state, and the new green energy policy will include provisions to facilitate their participation.”
“In addition, the NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) is initiating a Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in the Chamba district, featuring a dedicated solar plant, an electrolyzer unit, and a hydrogen storage system. Plans are underway to introduce hydrogen-powered buses operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).”
“The formulation of this policy is poised to position Himachal Pradesh as a frontrunner in India’s clean energy transition. By promoting green hydrogen production and adoption, the state will make significant contributions to global climate change mitigation while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth. Himachal Pradesh aims to become a role model for clean and renewable energy initiatives.
