Haryana CM inaugurates Ethanol plant at Shahabad Sugar Mill

KURUKSHETRA: Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar virtually inaugurated an ethanol plant of 60 KLPD (kiloliter per day) capacity at Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill in Kurukshetra district on Monday, established at the cost of about Rs 99 crore.
The chief minister said that with the establishment of this ethanol plant Shahabad Sugar Mill, there will be a revolutionary change in the economic condition of this mill.
“The youths will also get direct and indirect opportunities for employment. With this ethanol plant, the economic position will be strengthened and the payment of sugarcane growers will also be done on time”, said Manohar Lal Khattar.
Haryana CM inaugurated the development virtually from a function at Karnal and his political secretary Krishan Kumar Bedi and Kurukshetra deputy commissioner (DC) Mukul Kumar were present at the spot to inaugurate the plant.
Haryana cooperation minister Banwari Lal, Shahabad-Markanda MLA Ram Karan Kala, cooperation department additional chief secretary (ACS) Sanjeev Kaushal also remained virtually present and thanked CM for this development for the people of the constituency.
Praising the functioning of Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill Haryana CM had virtually announced to establish at 30 KLPD ethanol plant on June 6, 2016, under the Swaran Jayanti Scheme.
The foundation stone of this ethanol plant was laid by former Haryana cabinet ministers Manish Grover and Krishan Kumar Bedi on September 10, 2019.
The commissioning work of this ethanol plant has started with inauguration itself and the trial work will be started in a few weeks. The production will be started in the last week of December 2021, said the officials.
CM Manohar said that in order to preserve the glorious history of sugar mills and to save foreign exchange, this 60 KLPD ethanol plant has been set up in the mill while promoting the green fuel campaign being run by the Government of India.
“Ethanol will be prepared from the molasses produced during the mill operation. To improve the economic condition of sugar mills, it is necessary to set up such ethanol plants. The ethanol produced from this plant will be sold to the Oil Marketing Companies of the Government of India. The ethanol plant will prove to be helpful in controlling the rising petrol prices in the market and achieving the economic goals of the mill. When the financial position of the mill is strengthened, the payment of sugarcane growers will be done on time”, said CM Manohar.
Kurukshetra DC Mukul Kumar said establishment of ethanol plant is a big achievement for sugar mill and this mill will not have to suffer from financial crisis in future.
During the last crushing season of 2020-21, Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill crushed 76.81 lakh quintals of sugarcane and produced 8.34 lakh quintal sugar. The recovery of this mill is 10.86 per cent and it generated income of Rs 19.64 crore after exporting 4.85 crore units of electricity. For the present session of 2021-22, the mill has kept a target of crushing 80 lakh quintal of sugarcane, 11 per cent sugar recovery and production of 8.80 lakh quintals of sugar.
