Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML), a leading sugar producer, has praised the Uttar Pradesh government’s newly approved bioplastic policy, which aims to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives.
BCML Chairman and MD Vivek Saraogi highlighted the significance of this policy, calling it a “visionary step” that strengthens India’s path to a circular economy. Saraogi emphasized that India, as the second-largest sugarcane producer, has a crucial role in producing bioplastics from biomass.
The policy, which is key to India’s Net Zero goal by 2070, offers various incentives such as capital investment subsidies, SGST reimbursement, and duty-free electricity to boost the bioplastics sector.
BCML is set to establish India’s first large-scale PLA (polylactic acid) bioplastic manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh, leveraging the benefits of this policy. The plant is expected to enhance sustainability efforts, reduce carbon emissions, and generate new jobs.
