Farmers in Hasanpur Demand ₹600 per Quintal for Sugarcane, Seek Sugar Mill Operations from October 25

Hasanpur, Amroha: Farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) have demanded an increase in the sugarcane price to ₹600 per quintal and called for sugar mills to begin operations from October 25 ahead of the upcoming crushing season. The demands were raised during a block-level meeting held at the Naveen Mandi premises in Hasanpur, Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh.

During the meeting, farmers also opposed the installation of smart electricity meters and demanded that the load on existing electricity connections should not be increased. They raised concerns over land acquisition for the Ganga Expressway, seeking the inclusion of plots associated with residential areas and link roads in the relevant land records and acquisition lists.

The farmers highlighted difficulties arising from canal construction, stating that some agricultural fields had been divided into two sections by the project. They called for proper access roads to ensure farmers could reach both portions of their land without inconvenience.

The meeting also addressed issues related to the sugarcane supply and allotment system. Farmers demanded that those wishing to shift their sugarcane supply arrangements from the assigned gate to a purchasing centre should be allowed to do so according to their preferences. They emphasised the need for a transparent and farmer-friendly system for managing sugarcane supply arrangements.

The demand for a sugarcane price of ₹600 per quintal comes ahead of the new crushing season, as farmers seek better returns to cover rising cultivation costs. The call to start sugar mills from October 25 also reflects their demand for timely commencement of procurement and crushing operations.

The meeting was chaired by Rajpal Singh, while block president Rajiv Chaudhary conducted the proceedings. Several farmers and union representatives attended the meeting, including Manoj Kumar, Yogendra Singh, Sheeshpal Singh, Inderjeet Singh, Veer Singh and Kale Singh, along with other members.

The meeting brought together several key concerns affecting farmers in the region, including sugarcane pricing, mill operations, electricity infrastructure, land acquisition and agricultural connectivity. The union urged the authorities concerned to consider these demands and take appropriate steps to address farmers' issues.
