₹2,850 Cr Green Investment Puts Uttar Pradesh on Global Bioplastics Map
India’s First Industrial-Scale PLA Brand to Be Produced in Uttar Pradesh
Balrampur Bioyug will be produced at a state-of-the-art facility currently under development in Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, adjacent to BCML’s existing sugar complex. With a significant investment of ₹2,850 crores, the upcoming plant will convert sugarcane into PLA using 100% renewable energy.
Once operational, the facility is projected to produce up to 80,000 tonnes of bio-based, industrially compostable PLA annually—offering a scalable, eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics.
‘Bioyug on Wheels’: Sustainability on the Move
The event also featured the unveiling of ‘Bioyug on Wheels’ — a mobile experience center that brings the story and uses of PLA directly to people.
Featuring interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and product showcases, the initiative aims to raise awareness about bioplastics and foster mainstream adoption.
Leadership Speaks
Ms. Avantika Saraogi described Bioyug as a step into a “bio-circular era”, aligning with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and sustainable industrial innovation. She also acknowledged the enabling role of CM Yogi Adityanath and pro-bioplastic policies from the government.
Mr. Vivek Saraogi remarked, “Balrampur Bioyug is not just a brand — it’s a commitment to India’s sustainable future.”
Mr. Stefan Barot emphasized, “This will be the world’s first facility to integrate sugarcane-to-PLA conversion at one site, powered fully by renewables.”
A Leap Toward Circular Economy
Balrampur Bioyug promises to reduce CO₂ emissions by 68% over the lifecycle compared to traditional plastics, offering a credible, scalable solution to India’s single-use plastic challenge — and advancing the circular economy mission.
