Patent Granted for Biogas Production System from Sugar Industry Byproducts: Work by Narendra Mohan Agarwal and NSI Kanpur

A groundbreaking patent has been granted for “A Method & System for Production of Compressed Biogas (CBG) from Filter Cake of Sugar Industry”. Filed in 2019, this innovation was spearheaded by Mr. Narendra Mohan during his tenure as Director of the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur. This method offers a sustainable solution for utilizing filter cake, a sugar industry byproduct, to produce biogas.

Mr. Sanjay Awasthi, President of The Sugar Technologists’ Association of India and Business Head (Sugar) at ISGEC, was also honored with a fellowship by NSI. Under the guidance of Mr. Mohan, he conducted extensive research on biogas production from filter cake/press mud.

This achievement underscores the commitment of Indian researchers to sustainable innovations, contributing significantly to the sugar industry’s eco-friendly transformation
