india Glycols Limited has significantly enhanced its ethanol production capacity to support the country’s biofuel goals. At its Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand, the company has added 100 KLPD to its grain-based distillery, bringing the total capacity to 500 KLPD. Additionally, the biofuel ethanol plant at Kashipur has seen a capacity increase of 180 KLPD, reaching 590 KLPD.
The company has also expanded its value-added chemical products capacity to 7,500 MT/year. Further capacity enhancements at its Gorakhpur facility are underway, with an additional 180 KLPD for grain-based distillery and 90 KLPD for biofuel ethanol conversion expected by Q4 FY25.
India’s ethanol blending program aims for 20% ethanol in petrol by 2025, with the country already achieving a 15.8% blend as of August 2024. Ethanol production capacity has surged from 518 crore liters in 2017-18 to 1,623 crore liters in 2023-24, underscoring the government’s commitment to greener energy and farmer empowerment across key states.
