Government considering raising ethanol prices

India’s Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra told reporters that the government considering raising domestic sugar sale price and ethanol prices, reported Reuters.

Currently, ethanol produced from cane juice is priced at Rs 65.61 per litre, while ethanol from B-Heavy and C-Heavy molasses is priced at Rs 60.73 and Rs 56.28 per litre, respectively.

As per report, the government views the ethanol blending program as crucial for meeting its green energy commitments and enhancing the financial stability of sugar mills.

Recently, government allowed sugar mills and distilleries to manufacture Rectified Spirit (RS)/Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) from sugarcane juice and B-Heavy molasses (BHM).

Additionally, the government also permitted sugar mills and distilleries to produce ethanol from sugarcane juice, B-Heavy Molasses, and C-Heavy Molasses during the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25. Additionally, the government has lifted a previous ban and allowed the sale of up to 23 lakh tonnes of rice from Food Corporation of India (FCI) stocks to grain-based ethanol distilleries. This move is expected to significantly boost ethanol production.
